VRChat and Unity Commissions

Commission Info

I’ve been developing games for over 15 years, with over 10 of those years in Unity. Whether you are looking to get some VRChat avatar work done, commission a custom VRChat world, or are seeking help for your own indie Unity project, I have the expertise to help.

If you have any questions about the process, please feel free to contact me!

VRChat Worlds

Are you looking to create your own unique homeworld or hangout area in VRChat? Whatever the concept you have in mind, I can help make it a (virtual) reality. I specialize in creating worlds with stunning, expansive natural landscapes. I also use a number of optimization techniques to reduce world size and improve in-game performance. You can see some examples of my work below:

Pricing

Worlds can be virtually unlimited in size and scope. Most world commissions are billed on a case-by-case basis depending on the scale and complexity of your commission.

If you want your world to include paid assets that I do not already own, the cost of those assets will be added to the price.

Basic Interior Worlds: $250+, depending on size and complexity

Basic interiors include one or multiple furnished rooms according to your specifications. The starting price of $150 assumes a small (<100 sq. meters), interior world with only a few rooms rooms, basic furnishing, and a basic background or skybox. Additional charges will apply for larger or more complex commissions.

Basic Exterior/Natural Worlds: $400+

Basic natural environments are a good option for those looking for an outdoor hangout world. They are also good as a natural backdrop that can be used as a base for a more complex world.

Examples of basic natural worlds include the anime forest and fire-themed alien world shown in the gallery above. These worlds will contain a natural environment with no buildings or props added. I will procedurally generate rocks, trees, foliage, grass, and textures to form a natural-looking environment, then modify those components to fit your desired theme. Environments are usually 256m x 256m or 512m x 512m to help prevent players from seeing the edge of the terrain without being excessively large. Larger environments may be available on request. I can also add invisible boundaries to constrain players to a smaller section of the environment if desired.

Full Custom Worlds: Varies

If you have a larger or more complex idea in mind, contact me for a custom quote.

World Edits: Varies

For new edits to a world previously commissioned from me, contact me with details and I can provide a quote. Note that I will not edit worlds that were not created by me.

Process

Payment must be received in full before I begin work. Payment plans are available for orders of $500 or more with an initial 50% deposit.

Most world commissions are completed within 30 days. Complex commissions may take longer than this. If I expect a commission will take longer than 30 days, I will give you the estimated turnaround time when providing a quote.

Prior to final delivery, I will provide you with pictures and a walkaround video showcasing the world and its features. This will be your last chance to request any edits prior to delivery and upload. No further modifications are allowed once final approval has been received. Any requested edits that significantly increase the size or complexity of the order beyond the original quote may require an additional charge.

All world commissions are delivered as a Unity package with instructions on how to upload to VRChat. All VRChat scripts required for upload will be set up so that the world is ready for upload out-of-the-box. Alternatively, I can upload the world directly to VRChat Community Labs if you don’t want to deal with the upload process. Keep in mind that you will be unable to edit the uploaded world if you choose this option; I would recommend uploading the world yourself if you plan to make edits to the world in the future.

VRChat Avatars

I can help you get the VRChat look you desire through a variety of avatar services. I can do avatar retextures, optimization, and model editing (including adding hair or clothing). Examples of avatars I’ve worked on in the past are below:

Ichigo - Eevee/Alcremie hybrid
Ichigo – Complex edits/retexture of an Eevee base

Pricing

For legal reasons, I cannot work on paid avatar bases that I do not already own. If you want to commission me for work on a base that I do not own, an additional charge will be added to the commission to cover the cost of the base model. As of May 2022, I own the following models:

I can also work on all free base models.

Note that many paid base models require that both parties own the model to be worked on. You are responsible for abiding by any such license terms for a paid base model.

Avatar Retextures: $50+, depending on complexity

Avatar Optimization: $30+ for PC-only optimization; $75+ for PC and Quest optimization

Most furry base models are poorly optimized with high polygon counts and rigs that aren’t optimized for Dynamic Bones. This makes it common to see furry avatars in VRChat rated as Poor or Very Poor performance. This means that other users in VRChat may be unable to see your avatar depending on their VRChat Trust settings. Poorly optimized models cause a greater performance hit to other users in the world, which can impact their frame rate. I can optimize models to reduce the polygon count, combine materials, and streamline rigging Dynamic Bones to get the best performance possible out of your avatar.

Optimization can be tricky and is heavily reliant on the base model. Some base models will simply have too much detail to be feasibly optimized to Quest standards. Before I accept payment or begin work, I will work with you to understand the detail level of the model and get a sense of how much optimization is possible.

Note that certain levels of optimization, especially Quest optimization, have limitations on performance-heavy components like Dynamic Bone. Adding excessive Dynamic Bones or Dynamic Bone Colliders can cause your avatar to fall to a Medium, Poor, or Very Poor rating by VRChat despite any optimization that I do. If you plan to use Dynamic Bones and/or Dynamic Bone Colliders, let me know when you place your order so that I can advise you on how your desired Dynamic Bone setup will impact your performance rating.

Model Editing: $50+, depending on complexity

Many furs on VRChat wish to add clothing, hair, or accessories to their base model to obtain their desired look. Though you can sometimes upload these models as separate objects in Unity and combine them there, this is an unoptimized way of doing things that can cause odd clipping issues or prevent the added parts from moving with the rest of the model correctly. I can combine your addon parts with your base model directly in Blender, then modify the rig and weight paints to ensure that the added parts move seamlessly with the rest of the model.

If you want clothing addons to be toggleable in VRChat, this is also something that I can set up. Be aware that this is a poorly optimized method as it results in having multiple objects rendered separately in Unity, which hurts avatar performance. Adding clothing as a second object automatically disqualifies your avatar from an Excellent performance rating. Having 2 or more additional Unity objects attached to your avatar disqualifies it from a Good rating. Quest avatars cannot have any such objects without disqualifying them from a Good rating.

Process

Payment must be received in full before I begin work. Most avatar commissions are completed within 14 days; if I expect an order to take longer than that, I will let you know when providing a quote.

Prior to the final delivery of the order, I will send you screenshots and a video showcasing the finished avatar. This will be your last chance to request any further edits or modifications prior to delivery. No further modifications are allowed once final approval is received. Any requested edits that significantly increase the size or complexity of the order beyond the original quote may require an additional charge.

All avatar commissions will be delivered in the form of a Unity package with instructions on how to upload to VRChat. All VRChat setup required for upload will be included in this package.
